While AE Foot was Head Master at Doon he authored a remarkable series of essays, in the School Magazine, on what was expected of a boy at 'School' as he grew up. Beginning in 1938, with the essays titled "Fourteen" he articulated a vision that has been the cornerstone of upon which the education of a student in The Doon School has rested and from there evolved. This initial essay was followed two years later, in 1940, for a boy at "Sixteen", next essay titled "Seventeen" was published in 1941 and "Eighteen", the final essay, appeared in the School Magazine in 1942. We have uploaded all four essays, both as images and searchable document files.
